Loth Van der Auwermeulen is a law researcher at Hasselt University in Belgium. She is studying cross-border legal issues regarding the preparation, construction, and operation of the Einstein Telescope (ET). For the ET project office in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine, she is identifying the legal possibilities for the observatory and whether the project can be a kind of “testing ground” for European cooperation.

Basic scientific research offers opportunities for society and business, argues Han Dols, head of business Development & Entrepreneurship CERN and member of the Dutch valorisation advisory board for the Einstein Telescope. In a video interview, he talks about the parallels between CERN and the Einstein Telescope as drivers of innovation.

The Walloon municipality of Plombières, with 11,000 inhabitants, consists of the districts of Montzen, Moresnet, Gemmenich, Sippenaeken, Hombourg, and Plombières itself. The municipality lies in the area where potential sites for the Einstein Telescope (ET) are being sought. The mayor, Marie Stassen, is particularly interested in the underground observatory for several reasons.
