‘German coalition agreement is a major success for the EMR-region’

The government of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) has responded enthusiastically to the passages on the Einstein Telescope in the coalition agreement of the new federal government in Berlin. North Rhine-Westphalia is an important partner in the Einstein Telescope project. The RWTH Aachen University of Technology also sees this as a positive sign for the construction of the telescope in this Euregio.

Flemish valorisation programme stimulates development of technologies for Einstein Telescope

The Flemish Einstein Telescope team and the Flemish Agency for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (VLAIO) have set up a valorisation programme. A special committee has also been formed to encourage collaborating companies, knowledge institutions and newly formed consortia to develop technologies needed for the Einstein Telescope. VLAIO has subsidies available for this purpose.

Spacetime wins at Cannes World Film Festival

Spacetime

The film “Spacetime, the era of gravitational waves” has been crowned best “scientific film” at the Cannes World Film Festival. The short documentary has also been honoured or nominated for awards at other festivals. The film is part of the school programme at the Einstein Telescope Education Centre (ETEC) in Kerkrade. Spacetime was commissioned by the Dutch Black Hole Consortium (DBHC) and made by Jeroen Hoekstra of Big Pixel.

Karsten Danzmann receives honorary doctorate 

Karsten Danzmann

Prof. Dr. Karsten Danzmann has been awarded an honorary doctorate by RWTH Aachen University. He received the award for his outstanding contributions to the development of technologies that led to the discovery of gravitational waves and for his support of the Einstein Telescope. Danzmann has previously spoken out in favour of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine as the location for the construction of this telescope.

ENVIRONMENT

Participation study starts in Einstein Telescope area

On behalf of the Einstein Telescope EMR project office, Hasselt University will soon start a participation project in the telescope's search area. Over the next year and a half, the researchers will map out what residents expect from the arrival of the Einstein Telescope and what their wishes are in this regard.

Civil engineer Patricia Lamas: 'This project will be a benchmark'

What is the best place and technique to build the underground facility for the Einstein Telescope? From 9-15 May 2025, our civil engineer Patricia Lamas (Amberg Engineering) presented the intricate work of designing the best tunnel complex for the Einstein Telescope to her peers at the World Tunnel Congress in Stockholm.

Good cross-border cooperation is an important key to success for the Einstein Telescope in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine. To underline this, we had a stand at the Drielandpunt in Vaals on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 May during the celebrations of Europe Day and the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration. The focus was on peace, unity, democracy, cultural exchange and the importance of cross-border cooperation.
